Away from
the noise.

There is a version of every person that only appears when no one is watching. We make work about that version.

About

The face is the most honest landscape there is

We believe that the closer a camera moves toward a person — not physically, but in terms of trust, stillness, and time — the more it finds something that cannot be constructed. Not beauty. Not performance. Something older and harder to name.

Curated Dreams is an independent artist studio founded in London by photographer and director Stephen Langmanis and creative partner Sara Dunn. Our work is built on a single conviction: that the natural world, when a person is placed inside it without instruction, acts as a mirror. What it reflects is not how someone looks. It is who they are when the looking stops.

Each project is an act of radical patience. We remove the apparatus of direction — the pose, the brief, the performance — and replace it with environment, silence, and permission. We wait. The subject moves, or does not move. Something true surfaces. We document it.

Our debut series features Mags, a 26-year-old musician, alone in a woodland with a vintage microphone and a silent tape deck — invited to listen to the forest and respond however felt true. What she offered, the camera received.

01 — The artists

Two practices.
One conviction.

The most intimate work is not made by getting closer with a lens. It is made by creating the conditions in which a person forgets they are being seen. That is the only methodology we believe in.

Stephen
Langmanis

Stephen's practice is rooted in the belief that the human face — and the human body in stillness or motion — contains more visual information than any constructed scene. His work resists the polished surface. He is interested in the moment before the performance begins, or the moment after it collapses: the unguarded interval where something real becomes visible.

Curated Dreams is the fullest expression of that instinct — a space to work without brand objectives or art direction, where the conditions of image-making are themselves the subject.

Sara
Dunn

Sara's work as a director is distinguished by what it draws out rather than what it imposes. She has an instinct for the conditions that make people genuinely free in front of a camera — the quality of attention, the pace of a room, the particular silence that precedes something honest.

Within Curated Dreams, Sara co-directs every shoot and is present throughout as pastoral anchor. Her role is not to shape what happens but to protect the space in which it can. Without that, the work is simply photography. With it, it becomes something closer to testimony.

How it works

01

Initial conversation

We start with a relaxed, informal conversation — just you, Stephen, and Sara. No casting call, no audition, no pressure. We want to understand who you are, what draws you to the project, and whether the fit feels right on both sides. You are welcome to ask us anything at this stage, and there is no obligation to go further.

02

Full briefing & consent

Before anything is agreed, we walk you through the concept in full — what the shoot involves, where it takes place, how the images and film may be used, and what your rights are at every stage. All consent and usage terms are set out in plain English. You retain the right to review every image before it is used commercially, and you can withdraw consent for any specific image at any time prior to publication. Nothing happens without your explicit agreement.

03

The shoot

You will be brought to a natural location — a forest, moorland, or coastline — with a small number of simple props as starting points rather than instructions. The shoot is unhurried and entirely led by you. Sara Dunn is present throughout as co-director and pastoral presence; your comfort and wellbeing come before everything else, unconditionally. You will never be directed or posed. What we document is whatever you freely offer — stillness, movement, curiosity, whatever arises when you are simply allowed to exist in the space.

04

Curation & approval

After the shoot, Stephen and Sara work through the images and footage in post-production — selecting, colour grading, and editing with care. You will be shown the curated selection before anything is published or printed. If there are images you are not comfortable with, they will not be used. Your approval is not a courtesy — it is a condition of the work entering the world.

05

Exhibition & publication

The finished work — photographs and short film — becomes part of the Curated Dreams body of work. Selected images are produced as limited-edition A0 fine art prints and exhibited through London galleries and the studio's direct channels. The accompanying film is distributed via the studio's social platforms. Your name and story, to the degree you are comfortable sharing them, become part of the work's public record — a document of genuine human expression that will endure.

Your presence

Sara Dunn is present throughout every shoot. Your wellbeing and comfort come before anything else — unconditionally and without exception.

Expectations

We ask you to understand the brief and to explore and express how you feel is the real you — away from any commercial expectations.

An authentic experience

We are not looking for models or performers. We are looking for people with a genuine sense of self — curious, open, unafraid of stillness.
